Choosing between the Rockler Pro Lift and Rockler SL Router Lift starts with the router you already own. A router that mounts directly in one lift may need an optional collar in the other. Plate dimensions and adjustment features also matter, but neither can compensate for unsupported motor fit.
Short answer: For manufacturer-listed DeWalt DW618 and Porter-Cable 690/890 motors, the SL is a direct-fit option, while the Pro requires Rockler collar #57022. For a Porter-Cable 7518, Rockler explicitly lists direct installation in the Pro; do not assume the same for the SL. Verify your exact router and table opening before buying.
Rockler Pro vs SL: key buying differences
| Decision factor | Rockler Pro Lift | Rockler SL Lift |
|---|---|---|
| Router fit focus | Direct fit for listed large Porter-Cable motors; optional collar for several listed mid-sized routers | Direct fit for several listed mid-sized routers; separate collars for certain other listed motor groups |
| Height adjustment | Quick-Gear and precision adjustment features | Above-table adjustment without Pro’s Quick-Gear feature |
| Plate choice | More than one plate-size version; match the exact SKU to your table | Rockler lists an 8-1/4 × 11-3/4-inch plate; verify the opening |
| Potential extra purchase | Collar #57022 for specified mid-sized routers | Collars #58234 or #58753 for specific listed motor groups |
These are manufacturer-described features and compatibility arrangements, not results from independent hands-on testing. Consult Rockler’s Pro Lift documentation and Rockler’s SL Lift documentation for the current product specifications.
Which lift fits your router?
The following table focuses on the models that most clearly change the buying decision. ✓ Manufacturer Verified means the manufacturer identifies a supported fit; ⚠ Requires Modification means a named accessory is needed; ? Unverified does not mean incompatible.

| DeWalt DW618 | Requires Modification collar #57022 |
Manufacturer Verified direct fit |
SL avoids a separate Pro collar |
| Porter-Cable 690 | Requires Modification collar #57022 |
Manufacturer Verified direct fit |

| Porter-Cable 890 | Requires Modification collar #57022 |

When the SL Lift makes more sense
Start with the SL if you own a manufacturer-listed direct-fit mid-sized router, such as a DeWalt DW618 or Porter-Cable 690/890, and do not need the Pro’s additional adjustment features. Avoiding a separate Pro collar simplifies the purchase. That does not automatically make the SL the right choice for every router in the same brand family.
The SL can also use separately sold collars for certain other explicitly listed motor groups. Rockler identifies #58234 and #58753 for particular supported motors; those collars are not interchangeable universal solutions. Confirm the exact model against Rockler’s list.
When the Pro Lift makes more sense
The Pro is the more clearly documented choice for a Porter-Cable 7518 because Rockler lists that motor for direct installation. It also offers Quick-Gear adjustment and multiple plate-size versions, which may matter if you value faster height changes or need a particular table opening. For the DW618 and PC690/890, budget for collar #57022 if choosing the Pro.
Do not overlook the router table opening
Router-to-lift fit and lift-to-table fit are separate checks. Confirm the plate dimensions, corner radius and table opening for the exact lift SKU. A compatible router motor does not guarantee that a lift plate will drop into your existing table. Do not order on motor fit alone.
What if your router is not listed?
Do not infer compatibility from motor diameter, a similar model number or another retailer’s description. An unlisted pairing is ? Unverified until manufacturer evidence supports it. For example, Rockler’s reviewed SL documentation does not establish the Porter-Cable 7518 relationship; that is not a claim of incompatibility.
Our buying recommendation
Own a DW618, PC690 or PC890? Compare the SL’s direct-fit arrangement against the Pro’s additional features and collar cost. Own a PC7518? Start with the Pro’s documented direct fit. Own a different router? Check the exact model before making a lift choice. Prices change, so compare current lift, collar and table-adaptation costs rather than relying on a static price gap.
